Some Shreds: Here Means Something。
Dedicated to exploring the very elasticity of percussion chamber music, Rhythmaker is a non-profit music group established in 2019, formed by a group of local professional percussionists who believe in the infinite possibilities in percussion music and perform repertoire especially written for hand-held instruments.
Discovering the potentials in quotidian objects, they toy with daily objects as instruments, other than traditional ones, like wine bottles, ice trays, wooden stools, paper cups etc. The use of found objects in music-making ties close to the audience’s quotidian experience, seeking to create sounds that are always easily approachable, amiable and sympathetic. They strive to break the barricade between performers and audience. Great effort is made to incorporate special lightings and theatrical effects onto music performance.
Rhythmaker restlessly create music of novel visual-audio experience to the audience. They aim to promote percussion chamber music by holding regular concerts and workshops to critical public acclaim. They never cease creation and exploration of new percussion repertoire.
In 2021, Rhythmaker was invited by the International Fringe Association as the commissioned percussion group in their percussion composition competition. In 2022, Rhythmaker received funding from the Hong Kong Arts Development Council to run its music x heritage series: Some Shreds: Here Means Something in fall 2023-2024.
