Phoebe received her Bachelor of Arts (Hons.) in Music in the Hong Kong Baptist University
(majoring in percussion performance and pedagogy) and her Master of Arts in Music in the
Chinese University of Hong Kong. She also holds the Licentiate Diploma in percussion
recital with distinction by Trinity College London. Besides, she has been to the U.S.A and
Croatia to learn marimba with the eminent musicians, Nancy Zeltsman, Ivana Bilic and Eric
Sammut.
Phoebe regularly performs in Hong Kong and internationally. She is currently the timpanist/
percussionist of groups including Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra, Ponte Orchestra and Hong
Kong Festival Winds Orchestra. She also shows huge enthusiasm for duo playing. In 2011,
she founded PAAR!!!! with a local yangqin player. The group’s vast repertoire includes their
original works and their own music arrangements. They wish to bring the audiences a new
experience of contemporary music culture. In 2012, the group was invited by Décimo
Festival to perform their own recital and with the Querétaro Symphony Orchestra in Mexico.
Phoebe is currently a member of Rhythmaker, a Hong Kong based percussion ensemble.
Besides performances, Phoebe also teaches percussion in several secondary and primary
schools.
Ka Wai Li (Chronicle) completes his Master of Music Majoring in Marimba Performance with Professor Ludwig Albert at the Royal Conservatoire Antwerp.
Li studied percussion since aged 11. In 2009, he enrolled Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU), major in percussion with Ms. Sophia Woo and Mr. Lap Tak Choy. After graduating with First Honor in 2013, he was awarded the Special Talent Award from the HKSAR Government.
In 2016, he obtained a number of awards from various music competitions,
included, the Champion of Malaga international Marimba Competition in Spain,
Filadelfia Marimba Competition and Festival in Italy and International Hong
Kong Marimba Competition respectively. He is also the 1st runner-up of the
Percussion Open Class – Young Musician of the Year 2010 in Hong Kong.
Li was principal percussionist of the HKBU Symphony Orchestra and Pro Arte
Orchestra of Hong Kong. He was one of the founders of BUPES – the Baptist
University Percussion Ensemble, which set up in 2009. As a freelancer, he also
participated in several professional and amateur orchestras and ensembles
including the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, the Pan Asia Symphony
Orchestra the Hong Kong Bach Choir and several percussion ensembles.
Li was also very active in percussion ensemble and solo performances; he had
solo performances in Belgium, Spain, Italy and Hong Kong. Apart from solo
performances, Li was also actively in chamber music with local outstanding
musicians. In order to promote and share Marimba culture in Hong Kong, he
formed duo group with violinist and pianist respectively and received very
positive responses from the audience. The groups (Marimba X Violin; Marimba
X Piano) were the first performance ever conducted in Hong Kong and the
activities were held by Li.
In 2013, He formed the Hong Kong and Taiwan Marimba Duo with Amber CHEN
Tzu-Chun and the Duo has been invited to perform in the Antwerp Chamber
Music Festival in 2014 and 2015. It drew media attention as well. In 2016, he
and YAU Mei Ying, a local percussionist grouped “Gemini Percussion” and won
the 3rd place in the International Hong Kong Chamber Music Competition.

Percussion under Ho Man Chuen and Chau
Chin Tung. She graduated degree
programme then continue to study master
programme at The Hong Kong Academy for
Performing Arts. During her academy years,
She studies Western percussion under Aziz
Barnard Luce, James Boznos, Alan
Cumberland, Dr. Lung Heung Wing as well
as Chinese percussion under Yim Hok Man.
She participated in the master classes from
Percussions Claviers de Lyon, Trey Wyatt,
Rainer Seegers, Joe Porter, Li Biao and Yu
Le etc.
Rainbow has acquired ABRSM Diploma in percussion with distinction.
Rainbow promotes percussion music with different music parties.
“M.A.R.B.L.E.S. Percussion”, a percussion ensemble was formed in 2020 by
Rainbow and her friends. The lounge concert “4against7” was held at Hong Kong
Y-square in 2021 March.
She is also a co-founder of “Rhythmaker”, a percussion ensemble that holds a series
of concerts regularly and provides workshops in school.
Rainbow is active to perform with Opera production such as performer of “Kiss of
Tosca” at 2018, “Carmen Hong Kong” at 2021 that production by More Than
Musical. Rainbow participated in lots of music ensembles, Wind Band, Symphonic
Orchestras and Chinese Orchestra. She is a freelancer of Opera Hong Kong, Pan Asia
Symphony Orchestra, Windpipe music ensemble.
Besides performances, Rainbow teaches in several primary schools and secondary
schools also conducts Percussion ensemble.
Fascinated by the distinguished colors of the percussion instruments, Karina Mei Ying, Yau is
dedicated to explore and bring out the dynamic of percussive sound. She is the percussionist of
the Hong Kong New Music Ensemble since 2016.
Born and raised in Hong Kong, Karina completed her Master of Music in Percussion
Performance at New York University, where she studied with Professor Jonathan Hass, Simon
Boyar and Eriko Daimo. She also involved in lots of chamber music groups including Marimba
ensemble, Percussion ensemble, African ensemble, Steel drum ensemble and Contemporary
Music ensemble.
In 2012, Karina graduated from the Hong Kong Baptist University with a Bachelor of Arts
(Music) degree in Percussion Performance and Pedagogy, under Dr. Lung Heung Wing and
James Boznos. She is also the founder member of the HKBU percussion ensemble. She also
holds the Licentiate Performance Diploma from the Trinity College of Music of London with
distinction.
Karina also appears as an orchestral percussionist. In 2014, Karina was invited by the Collegium
Musicum Hong Kong and performed in the Carnegie Hall. In 2013, Karina was selected in the
American Symphony Orchestra- Bard Conservatory of Music collaboration Project. She is also a
freelance timpanist and percussionist in several orchestras in Asia including The Macau
Orchestra.
Karina has particular interest in percussion chamber music and aims to pursue this as her goal.
Her duo “Gemini Percussion” awarded the 3rd prize in the International Hong Kong Percussion
Convention 2016. She is the founder member of local percussion group Rhythmaker. She is also
the chairperson of Music Pi, the group promotes local composers and they present Cantonese
music storytelling concerts.
